PETERHEAD RUNNING FESTIVAL WILL TAKE PLACE ON SUNDAY JUNE 26 2016

The 5th Peterhead Running Festival on 28th June 2015 was most successful, with runners coming from far and wide to take part. Over 200 runners entered the Masson Glennie Half Marathon, 230 runners entered the MB Plant 5km, And over 450 school children represent 43 primary schools entered the Shell School Fun Run. The event which a Great advert for the great community spirit we have in Peterhead was organised by Peterhead Jogscotland with help of a number of organisation including Aberdeenshire council Active School department and Peterhead Athletics Club. Also helping on the day was the Peterhead Seacadets, Peterhead Rugby Club, and members of Aircadets who provided
Marshalls along the route of the half marathon and 5km. Stephen Bruce chairman Peterhead Jogscotland comments “ We could never put on such a large event without help of all dozens of volunteers who help us on the day, and in the weeks leading up to event,
It is a great community effort, I believe and is helping to put Peterhead on map, as does the wonderful Relay for Life held the week after in same venue at Catto Park. Both events attract thousands of people into Peterhead which is just great. Unbelievably as must seem we had runners from USA, Canada, New Zealand as well as England and all part of Scotland. Father and Daughter Doug and Kym Craig came all way from Mobile Alabama. When they seen the festival on the internet they book their holiday around so they were in the NE on the day of the festival. Kym enjoyed the MB Plant 5km so much they she hopes to come again soon and run it again. Also at the Festival was Helen Willows along with daughter and son who came from Plymouth England Helen commented on Peterhead Running Festival facebook site “We travelled along way to join this, and felt really welcomed. Great run well organised and a beautiful route”. Winner of the Masson Glennie Half Marathon was Leigh Strachan a member of Peterhead Athletic Club & Peterhead Jogscotland in time of 1 hr 32.
